Hyderabad
June 7: The Congress will contest the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections alone, said the Backward Classes welfare minister, Mr M. Mukesh Goud. It will not have an alliance with the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen. Polls to the GHMC are likely to be held in August or September.
In the last elections to the erstwhile MCH, the Congress had forged an alliance with the MIM after the polls. The parties shared the post of the chairperson of the standing committee for two and three years respectively. Mr Goud said the party will contest the polls alone and is confident of sweeping 100 of the total 150 wards. “The party cadre is confident after winning the Assembly polls. They are strongly in favour of going it alone,” Mr Goud said.
Mr Danam Nagender and Mr Goud, the two ministers from the city, have asked officials to complete as many projects as possible in Greater Hyderabad before the polls to the civic body.
