Hyderabad: It rained flowers on the quiet streets of Kundanbagh on Monday morning. A group of Congress supporters gathered at Sri Nalla Pochamma Temple in the area where Congress candidate Danam Nagendar was offering prayers before starting off his padayatra.
Curious residents waited outside their homes to have a look at the leader who is contesting from Khairatabad constituency.
The campaign was confined to shaking hands and greeting voters with folded hands. In turn, he received garlands and ‘aartis’. A few residents invited Mr. Nagendar to step into their homes. Promising basic amenities and asking them to vote for him, Mr. Nagendar walked around, even as his supporters climbed walls to shower flowers on the rally.
“I have been voting for the Congress. I will pray that you win,” said M. Yellamma, a slum resident in Kundan Bagh. Apart from promising basic amenities, Mr. Nagendar also said that he would strive to make Khairatabad a model constituency.
Vital issues“There are a few issues such as roads, drains and drinking water. I will see to it that these matters are addressed shortly after being voted to power,” said Mr. Nagendar. “This constituency has been the Congress party’s stronghold and the expectations are also very high,” he added.
Adding to the noise quotient was a band playing the Hyderabadi favourite - ‘teen-maar’.
Flagging off his journey from Kundan Bagh, Mr. Nagendar walked into Methodist Colony, B.S. Makta, Somajiguda, Kummar Basti, Pochamma Basti and Durga Nagar Colony.
